The need for a new solution

The market is flooded with home based emergency call buttons (or pendant systems) but nothing that works wide area.

In addition, many people don’t want to wear an alarm pendant; “it’s the stigma of wearing a badge of old age.”

Hence, the development of Assure Connect™ a service that empowers a mobile phone to act as an efficient device for contacting friends or family and for managing triple zero calls.

Assure Connect™ is not just an aged care service. People of all ages can benefit from knowing they can quickly contact their friends and family and send out a general alert by simply pressing a single button on their mobile.

Red Button Technologies was founded by Prof. Reg Coutts and Justin Wearne in July 2006 to develop and commercialise an innovative telecommunications application.

Justin Wearne

Justin is a technology marketer with 30 years experience with the sales and marketing of industrial and technology products and services.

Justin worked for a number of years developing communications solutions for emergency services, local government, hospitals,

retirement villages and aged care facilities. Justin specified and designed communication and security systems including nurse call, intercoms, access control, CCTV, cordless telephony, two-way radio, integrated messaging and radio paging.

Prior to establishing his consulting business, Justin’s career included National Marketing Manager AUSCO International (formerly ATCO Industries), Marketing and Advertising Manager, Adelaide Casino, positions with Young and Rubicam Advertising and News Limited.

Professor Reg Coutts identified a gap in the market place for a mobile alerting system that allowed people to call for assistance while out of the home.

Professor Coutts is a respected member of the Telecommunications Community with national and international contacts.

Reg’s career includes: Emeritus Professor of Telecommunications, Adelaide University; BSc, BE (Hons) and PhD (Engineering), Fellow of the Australian Institute of Engineers, Senior Member of the American Institute of the electrical and Electronic Engineering and a Fellow of the Australian Computer Society.

Member of the NBN Expert Panel that evaluated the first round of bids for Australia’s broadband network.  Chairman of the Telecommunications Society of Australia. Seventeen years working in strategy development and technical positions for Telstra.
